Prince @ Zénith, Paris, show n° 2 , June 01 2014

Prince @ Zénith, Paris, show n° 2 , June 01 2014

SORRY: no pictures FOR THIS ONE WE'VE BEEN TOLD TO ERASE ALL PICTURES FROM THIS SHOW !!!
Here's our review of the first show:
Prince never do the same as other musicians, he's the only who can announce playing two shows the same day into a 6000 seats concert hall less than two weeks before the D Day.
Everybody was expecting a nightmare to get tickets with prices ranging from 70 euros for the pit to 140 euros for the best seats in the house.
Standing tickets were quickly sold-out but you could still buy the, supposed,  best seats "Cat 1" on the day.
Some many people were selling tickets outside the Zénith that you could easily get one, whatever the category, for a mere 30 euros.
Inside you can feel the excitation of the audience when the house light is off with Prince appearing behind his mike-Love Symbol-stand and guitar in hand for a rock rendition of "Let's go crazy".
His afro gives him a funny look surrounded by his all girl band 3RDEYEGIRL, probably not the best band he has played with but the girls are sexy.
Tonight is a best of concert with all the Hits, I guess he's promoting the newly remastered back catalogue albums to be out soon. I haven't seen Prince so many times on stage but it's the first time that I see him playing so many of his Hit songs in one show. For me that's all right even though hard-core fans would prefer more obscure songs. Sometimes it's nice to hear the Hits.
The show is divided in several parts: He's Rock with lots of guitars and Prince is kicking ass when he's on the 6-strings. Dance: with a sampler-medley part, that is less interesting... Lover when he's playing the piano but whatever he's doing it's always Funky.
We're all a bit disappointed when he's leaving the stage for the first Encore after just 60 min. He's back for 25 min more ending his set with "Purple rain".
85 min in all, even though the show was kicking ass, many felt cheated..
2nd show mainly the same (see setlist for details) but after the first Encore no one in the audience wants to leave the premises and the audience is asking for more, it's electric...
And the Prince is back... several times: 3 encores in all. We have an extra hour, the audience is wild and a bit sorry for the one who only could attend the first show.

Deep Purple / Peter Frampton @ Zénith, Paris Oct 20 2013

Deep Purple / Peter Frampton @ Zénith, Paris Oct 20 2013

Deep Purple is back in Paris just after playing the very same zénith arena , this time with a great opening band Peter Frampton. As it's sunday it's an early show meaning that Peter is getting on stage at 6:30, What the Fuck ! So we've missed half of his set. The Sound wasn't loud, didn't need any earplugs but perfect. Peter probably lost a bit of hair but not his subtle guitar playing.
Great instrumental cover version of Soundgarden's "Black Hole sun".
Ending his hour set with "Do You Feel Like We Do". Nice to see veteran bass player Stanley Sheldon.

SETLIST: (Thanks to Leopold, correct setlist)
01.Being For The Benefits Or Mr. Kite (Preshow Intro)
02.Something's Happening
03.Doobie Wah
04.Lines On My Face05. Show Me the Way
06.Double Nickels
07.Baby I Love Your Way
08. Black Hole Sun
09. Do You Feel Like We Do

After a short break we have DEEP PURPLE , here to promote their latest album "Now What ?!", I can't tell you that we're great fan of this album, we try and try but we can't get into it.
They opened the show with a new song then "Into the fire"... as usual with Deep Purple the lightning is fantastic, great sound from where we were (down the front). The show is divided in several parts with jams and soli so that Ian Gillan can rest his voice.
You can feel the camaraderie between musicians. Steve Morse is on top form feeding us with numerous soli.
"Perfect Strangers" was once again welcomed with the biggest cheers of the night, well almost, great track.
Great gig once again even though we'd like them to cut out some of the soli or jam.
Strange thing, it's probably the first time ever that we're attending a Deep Purple concert without them playing "Highway Star".

Deftones @ Zénith, Paris Sept 06 2013

Deftones @ Zénith, Paris Sept 06 2013

Deftones are back in Paris after playing a couple of sold-out shows a few months ago at the Trianon Theatre (capacity 1200). This time they're playing at the Zénith, the middle-size Zénith (capacity 4000) which is pretty good.
Very powerful set by Deftones and nicely atmosphere down the front as usual the singer is screaming out like mad his lyrics sometimes playing the guitar as well.
Apocalyptic ending for the encore songs.
very nice set

ZZ TOP + Jesus Volt @ Zénith, Paris June 18 2013

ZZ TOP + Jesus Volt @ Zénith, Paris June 18 2013

ZZ TOP is back in Paris to promote new album "La Futura" after playing Bercy Arena  in 2010 and the Olympia theater in 2012, The Texans are now playing at the (medium size) Zénith (around 4000 capacity. Opening band French Blues rock band Jesus Volt did  decent set.
After a long intermission ZZ TOP is getting on stage @ 9:15, the stage is kept to a minimum, there is literally nothing apart from a screen in the back and two small ones on each side on the floor.
The light show is still as bright as ever which is perfect to take pictures.
Nice start (see setlist below for details )
The band is on auto-pilot, everything is perfect in fact this is the same show for the last two tours with a couple of new songs.
As usual they are playing a very short set: 80 min max including the Encore.
Good show but feels like seeing automatons with guitars.
